Should my child be fluent in English to attend VVIS?

VVIS admits students with all levels of English. It is recommended that students have a conversational level in English from Year 10 upwards.  VVIS may require a language test to be administered prior to admission if the student’s first language is not English to determine the level of extra tuition required to cope with the curriculum framework.

What languages are offered at VVIS?

Preschool and Primary classes up to year 4 are taught 50%  in English and 50% in Portuguese.  All secondary classes, with the exception of foreign language classes, are taught in English.  A variety of language classes are available including Portuguese and French. Extra mainstream languages may be offered at a supplementary fee after hours for those students requiring additional tuition.

What are the school hours?

Preschool and Primary Schools officially start at 09:10 and finish at 15:30. After school activities and extra sport continue until 16:15. Refer to the Aftercare Programme for extended hours.

The secondary school (Years 7 to 13) starts at 9:00 and finishes at 15:45.  After school activities and extra sport continue until 16:45.  A Level students follow a timetable that may allow them to come in late or leave early on some days, with parents’ permission.  Senior students are required to sign in and out.

VVIS operates from Monday to Friday.

After School Time

At the end of each day’s classes, students can wait up to 15 minutes to be picked up. After this period they must be in supervised positions such as After School Activities or Clubs.  For security reasons, only students who are registered for Aftercare programmes will be allowed to remain on the school premises after the hours mentioned above. Students who remain at school without supervision beyond the 15 minutes tolerance period will be charged the Aftercare hourly rate.

What after school activities do you offer?

VVIS offers a range of activities that alternate throughout the year, subject to demand.  Some activities such as golf, archery and surfing are available at an additional fee.   Generally, extra curricular activities offered on the school premises are available without additional cost.  These activities include Art Club, Music Club, Portuguese Club, Maths Club, Science Club, Dance Club and a variety of sports such as Tennis, Basketball, Cross-Country Running and Football.
